Frequently Asked Questions
- What is Legacy Art Management?
Legacy Art Management is a consulting practice that helps artists and galleries navigate the business side of the art world with clarity and confidence. After nearly a decade as a gallery director and sales manager in Charleston, I saw many talented artists struggle with the practical realities of selling and sustaining their careers. I created Legacy Art Management to fill the gap between generic online advice and real, experience-based guidance from a gallerist’s perspective.
- Why should I work with Allison Hull and Legacy Art Management?
I bring practical experience and clear guidance to help structure the business side of your art, so you can focus on what you do best—creating. With nearly 30 years of experience in the art world as an archivist, collections manager, logistics specialist, website developer, marketing manager, sales consultant, and gallery director, I offer insight grounded in real-world practice. My goal is to share that experience in a way that helps you build confidence, clarity, and long-term success.
- Is this consulting for emerging artists or established artists?
I work with artists at many stages of their careers, from those just beginning to build structure around their practice to established artists looking to refine systems and grow more sustainably. The common thread is a desire to take the business side of art seriously while continuing to grow and learn. Support is always tailored to where you are now and where you want to go next.
- What can I expect with our consulting sessions?
Each consulting session is shaped around your goals, questions, and where you are in your career. Prior to scheduling, I ask that you complete the Artist Questionnaire and come prepared with questions—this helps ensure our time together is focused and productive. The more preparation you bring, the more comprehensive the session will be, and I’ll guide the conversation with thoughtful questions you may not have considered.
- Will you sell my work?
Legacy Art Management is not a gallery and does not sell artwork or represent artists. However, I do support artists in developing and managing their own sales opportunities—such as online exhibitions, pop-up shows, and home shows—and in preparing for gallery exhibitions and representation. My role is to help you strengthen your approach so you can confidently sell your own work or connect with galleries that are the right fit for you.
- Can you help me build and manage a website?
Yes! I love helping artists design and build sites that will help showcase your work and show off your personality. I work with Weebly and Square, Wordpress, Shopify, and FASO. But, if you're serious about growing your art business, I highly recommend my favorite - ARTCLOUD.
- Why Artcloud? It's kind of pricy compare to the other sites out there.
Artcloud is an investment, but it offers far more than a basic website. In addition to its clean, professional design, the platform is intuitive and easy to learn, with a responsive support team that truly understands the art world. Beyond aesthetics, Artcloud combines inventory management, client and gallery relations, invoicing, online sales, and reporting into one integrated system—eliminating scattered spreadsheets and guesswork while supporting long-term growth.
- Do you offer ongoing support beyond consulting sessions?
Yes. For artists who want to focus more fully on the studio, I offer ongoing support to manage the operational and digital side of their practice. This can include inventory management, website updates, inquiry handling, and other digital tasks that support sales and organization. Ongoing support is customized and collaborative, allowing your business to stay current and responsive while you stay focused on creating.
- Will you do my social media for me?
Yes, I offer social media management support, but successful social media marketing must be a collaborative effort. While I can handle strategy, scheduling, and execution, the content itself—your artwork, process, voice, and perspective—needs to come from you. Without your commitment to creating and sharing content, social media marketing cannot be effective or authentic.
- I'm not sure I'm good enough to be in a gallery. Will you critique my work?
Doubting your work is a natural part of being an artist who is continuing to grow and learn. While I don’t offer formal critiques, I can help you understand what galleries typically look for and how to present your work professionally. Together, we’ll focus on positioning your art and materials in a way that supports gallery opportunities and reflects your strengths clearly.
